The IGNOU MCOM Project for MCOP-001 is a compulsory, research-based course that checks how well commerce concepts can be used to study a real business issue. Assessment is generally done through a written project report and a viva-voce, with marks commonly shown as 150 for the report and 50 for the viva (total 200). The work is expected to be original, well-structured, and supported by primary data (survey/interview) or secondary data (reports, financial statements, journals). Evaluation usually focuses on topic relevance, clear objectives, suitable research method, correct sampling and tool use, clean data presentation, logical analysis, and practical conclusions. The viva tests command over the problem statement, method, key findings, and the link between results and recommendations.
You can choose virtually any relevant topic in commerce or business that interests you. Here are some suggested themes by discipline (you may adapt any into a specific title):
(You can write your project in English or Hindi as allowed by your Regional Centre. Ensure the topic is clearly stated in either language.)
Choose a topic that is neither too broad nor too narrow. It should be feasible (data must be accessible) and relevant to current business trends. Discuss your ideas with your guide to finalize a well-defined title.
You must submit a signed originality certificate confirming:
The work is original
It has not been submitted elsewhere
Proper references are used

Selecting a Guide: You may be assigned a guide by IGNOU or choose your own (as allowed). If choosing your own, ensure they meet the eligibility criteria above. Some popular steps to find a guide include consulting a faculty member at your study centre or contacting industry professionals in your field of study. Guide Consent Letter: Although not always required by IGNOU, it’s good practice to obtain a short letter or email from your guide stating they agree to supervise your project. This can be attached with the biodata. IGNOU’s Annexure-III (Project Guidance Bill) also contains a declaration by the guide. Check with your RC if they require a separate “internal guide certificate”.
Signature Format: The guide’s signature must appear on: the synopsis proforma, the certificate of originality (Annexure-II), and any guide-related annexures. The student’s signature also appears on the synopsis and certificate. Use blue or black ink and ensure the guide’s name is printed clearly below their signature line in all forms.
The MCOP-001 project is assessed on:
Prepare well on your methodology and findings; both report and viva marks contribute to the final grade.
IGNOU M.Com project guidelines generally require a Certificate of Originality that is signed by both the student and the supervisor/guide, and bound inside the project report (not stapled).

Student Details: Fill <<STUDENT NAME>> and <<ENROLMENT NO.>> correctly.
Programme/Course: Keep M.Com and MCOP-001 as written (edit only if your RC has a different printed requirement).
Originality Statement: Do not change the meaning—this section confirms the work is original and not submitted elsewhere.
Signatures: Take ink signatures of both Guide and Student, with Place and Date.
Placement: Insert it near the front of the report (commonly after the title page) and bind it properly with the report submission set.
